The organic garden at OurLocalFoods

Our Local Foods Garden

The garden is in full growth on about 5 acres this year, and we change our crops with the seasons. Currently we're harvesting the last of summer crops and are well into the fall planting and growth. We utilize a comprehensive sustainable and organic farming system, and have attained the Organic Farm Certification from the Clemson University Department of Plant Industry and the USDAs National Organic Program. Our organic practices include integrated pest management, and weed control via ground coverage management. We also fertilize with compost tea (we have a tea maker on site, and when the tea is ready, and it's time to fertilize - we inject the compost tea into the drip irrigation system through a device called a "fertigator", which is not related to the "alligator" that lives at the back of the farm). As you probably imagine, there are a lot of other details in organic farming, and we're happy to answer questions you may have about our practices - just email us and we'll answer your questions - and probably post the Q&A on our Blog. We're in production on a video of our farm, so check back soon to see the farm in action. In the meantime, we realize food safety has been a big concern for people, and here's an interesting video perspective from a Chinese farm.
